Our country’s small farms are under intense pressure, an average of 330 small US farms go under each week. At the same time industrial-sized farms grow exponentially, with smaller acreage getting consolidated into larger parcels and bigger business units.

These conglomerates, which are obligated to turning larger profits for their shareholders, create a greater dependence on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. In turn, these practices, cause serious water quality problems in our streams and rivers and impair the long term fertility of the soil and threaten the health of humans and the rest of the ecosystem.
